How Can I Improve My Indoor Air Quality?

February 11, 2016

The EPA has found out that indoor air can be 2-5 times more polluted than the air in highly industrialized cities. Indoor air is also more stagnant. While we’d all like to be able to open the windows and let in some fresh air, that’s not always an option, especially this winter. There are a few basic things you can do to improve your indoor air quality and create a healthier home environment.

Keep Your Home Clean

A vacuum with a HEPA (High-Efficiency Particulate Arrestance) filter, strong suction and rotating brushes is a great investment in the air quality of your home. Vacuuming once a week with a HEPA-certified vacuum can reduce the dust and allergens collected in your carpets and upholstered furniture.

There are some contaminants that escape your vacuum no matter how clean you keep your home. If you or someone in your home suffers from allergies, a PureAir™ Air Purification System could be just what you need. This system is a whole-home solution that takes care of particles and odors, and neutralizes chemical vapors – all things that can severely impact respiratory concerns.

Air Purifying Plants

Plants are a natural way to clean your air and all plants absorb carbon dioxide and discharge oxygen. Additionally, there are some plants that have been found to also eliminate harmful toxins such as: benzene, formaldehyde and trichloroethylene.

If you’d like to add an air purifying plant to your home, you can find a list of those plants by looking at the NASA Clean Air Study. If you have pets, you’ll want to check and be sure any plants you’re introducing into your home are not harmful to them if they decide to give them a taste test.

Keep Your Home Ventilated

Modern homes are created to keep outdoor air out of your home in order to maintain energy efficiency. This reduced ventilation results in a build up of air pollutants in your home. While it’s easy to simply crack a window, that may not solve it, which is why we have a few different ventilation solutions to help boost your indoor air quality and keep your home’s air clean and fresh.
